My wireless adapter connects to the router, yet there is no internet connection. So, I go into Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties for the wireless connection and hard code the IP Address, Subnet Mask, DNS Server, etc., and still no connectivity. I return to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties and click both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain a DNS address automatically and then IT WORKS!

Besides the IP and DNS Addresses changing slightly, after an ipconfig/all, the Connection-specific DNS Suffix is now filled in, where before it was blank.

I shouldn't have to go thru this each time just to connect. Anyone know what's going on?

    Thanks in advance.

It might help if we knew the ip address of the router and network adapter, if they are not on the same subnet then the two devices will not be able to talk to each other.

An example of this would be device1 with ip 192.168.1.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and device2 with ip 192.168.1.2 subnet mask 255.255.0.0. Looking at the ip addresses they look like they should be able to communicate but the subnet is wrong so communication would be impossible.

Have you tried leaving it on "Obtain an IP address automatically" and use "ipconfig /renew"?
