strange internet connectivity issue

WinXP MCE SP2. I attached screen shots below; the first is the Device Manager, the second is what happens when I try to run ipconfig from the command prompt. If I go to Control Panel > Network Connections, it shows the RealTek 8139 adapter as being installed, firewalled, and connected, but I can't get an IP, or go online (obviously), and the device manager shows everything network-related as being installed but 'unknown'. I think the screen shots say it best... ????????

Might get more help in Networking dlb, is it a new install or came in that way?

 

The thought crossed my mind, but I figured I'd get more exposure here in 'Software'. If one of the mods or admins wants to move it, that's OK too.

That's the reason I have it... the PCs owner said it just stopped connected to the internet one day. I haven't spent much time on it yet, but a preliminary look-see told me that's it's probably NOT malware. I might just uninstall everything that's now listed as "unknown", and try a repair install before Windows tries to reload the drivers for those items....

 

I had a similar problem at one time and solved it by doing a Winsockfix. I'm sure you can find one at Geek's.

 

Ahhh yes.... good idea. I'll try it tomorrow. I usually fix Winsock and TCP/IP manually and only use the 'automated' tools if the manual fix fails.... thanks for the reminder! Anyone else have any suggestions if the above doesn't work?
