Hello, I have a problem:). From some time, a week or so, my computer has some kind of lags/stuttering. Such lag typically lasts 3 seconds, during which everything stops, and resumes 3 seconds later, for example, when im writing, such lag occurs, and after few seconds text appears. Or when playing, sounds seems slowed down, loading takes ages, and that are games which previously runned fine. Even watching movies on youtube is annoying, they freeze the video, but audio is still there:confused. What could cause it? Please help. Sorry for my english, by the way.

I just checked and we can rule out malware because it seems you've completed those steps
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=232437

Open device manager and what three things (not system idle) are using the most CPU %.

What antivirus program are you running? Some can cause slowdowns and also if things keep getting scanned in real time, that can cause temporary freezes.

@ Plodr At the time of reviewing their last set of logs I did not see antivirus installed. I believe they did have a free trial of Spyware Doctor which is useless anyway if only a trial.

Yes, Kestrel13! helped me with those. I have Spybot installed, but I disabled S&D Resident. Kestrel also told me to keep Malwarebytes, so I have this too but currently disabled. I opened up task menager, and no proces takes any CPU, except Idle, only taskmgr takes 01 or 0.

Spybot's Teatimer used to take quite a hit on computers. I haven't installed Spybot in years so I don't know if that is true.
Also, have you made sure you completely removed Spyware Doctor?

  6. Siromanta

    Siromanta Private E-2

Yes, I uninstalled it completely. And TeaTimer is disabled. Anything I can do?

Sorry for double posting, but I also noticed, that sometimes some DOS window pops up, just for a second, and dissappears, computer (not speakers) makes a few "beeps". Maybe thats why I have this lags and sucky performance?

Hey, I managed to get a screenshot of this window that pops frequently. As I said, when this window is displayed, computer makes 3 "beeps". Im posting the screen shot link. "Odmowa dostępu" means something like access denied. http://img412.imageshack.us/i/64233383.png/
Also, when I tried to download something(I was downloading synthesis) via torrent (I tried many clients) after some time, for some reason torrent stops downloading, because "error of I/O device", every torrent does it. I used HDutility, as well as chkdsk, but no errors. What the hell is this:confused?

Looking at the last few items in the path on the error (in the blue) it says, Temp\update.tmp
so something is trying to update.

Now I know what program tries to update, its a online communicator. So this ones solved, what about torrents and "I/O device"?

    Greetings, Siromanta.

Torrents can be huge resource hogs if allowed to run unchecked, as well as potential sources of malware. You might try disabling any, see if your symptoms change.

Hello Caliban:), I open torrent client only when downloading something, almost always its disabled. And even then, still those lags, freezes occurs.:confused

In an earlier post, plodr mentioned opening Device Manager and checking the processes. I'm fairly certain she meant Task Manager, usually accessed by pressing <Ctrl> <Alt> <Del>. Check those processes, see if anything stands out.

Also, you might open your Event Viewer (Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer) at or near the time of the lags/freezes, see if there are any flags that may be associated.

Hello, yes, I opened task managed, not device manager:p. Now I opened this event viewer, and there are some errors. In application tab google update, in system tab, lots of atapi, and disk errors, also service control manager. Maybe thats lagging me up?

I'm curious: what happens when you boot into Safe Mode with Networking? You'll still be able to access the 'net, although with reduced functionality. I'm interested if you experience the issues without any 3rd-party programs starting up.

If Safe Mode w/ Networking seems to work well, you might try eliminating any startup programs to find the culprit.

Also, what browser do you use while in normal mode, and what's your IE version?

Hm, I booted in safe mode (with networking), but its all the same. I also noticed that my drive wont read any cd or dvd, and I mean any:confused. I tried to make startup programs dont start (succesfully) although it didnt helped. I use only Firefox, IE version is 6.0. Something tells me, that these lags are related to this drive error, now im looking on this event viewer, and disk error is recorded/registered every few seconds, just like my lags, what do you think Caliban? Edit: this is what this error says "During a paging operation error was detected on device \ Device \ Harddisk0 \ D."

The atapi and drive errors, the page operation warning, the fact that Safe Mode presents the same symptoms, the lags/freezing - I'm starting to lean towards possible hard drive failure.

Do you happen to know the manufacturer of your hard drive? If not, what's the make and model # of your machine? If possible, do this:

Download and run Free PC Audit, a stand-alone system information tool.

When the scan completes, click 'File', 'Save As', name the report, and save to an easily found location, such as your Desktop.

Be advised: the report will display your IP Address and Windows Product Key. You may delete this information if you so wish.

Then attach that file to your next post.

You might also start preparing for the transfer of any important data you wish to save, in case the HD is indeed failing.

Oops, hard disk failure? Is it my fault or just random thing? I got the impression that "lags" are getting stronger, but maybe its just impression. Ok, im posting this log

You've got a Seagate Barracuda drive, so you might download and run SeaTools to check your drive's integrity.

I tell you, though - you have got a lot of stuff going on with that machine. The fact that you're experiencing the lags/freezes while in Safe Mode indicates possible drive problems, but on the other hand, when in Normal Mode you're asking the machine to do a lot of work handling all of those programs. I'd seriously consider performing some major cleanup procedures when possible.

Hello Caliban, sorry for late reply, but as I posted my last scan log, my computer went "apesh1t", windows couldnt load up, cause of some "error reading disk". I took my computer to a service, and indeed, my hard drive had some problems, because computer was turned off instantly, you know, like unplugged. Of course, I do not turn off computer like this:) it was my sister. Well, thank you for help anyway:)!

Hey Caliban, looks like I started to celebrate too early:-D. For some reason, I still cant download any torrents, still the same error "I/O device error", this is getting annoying. Oho, newsflash, I opened up event viewer, and guess what, still the same error:confused. I dont see any lags now, but maybe this error needs time to "kick in". At this "service" they said that it should run fine now, maybe they fixed just a part of it?

    Hello again, Siromanta.

What exactly were the procedures performed by the repair shop?

They said that some system files were missing, and they had to copy new ones. While I was writing the reply yesterday, pc crashed again and I couldnt boot it, just like the last time, now it works, but it will probably crash again. I think its not system files, but hardware problem. Im going to call them in hour or so, and tell them that problem is still here. I will try to post what they said later:).

Hi there, my computer is back now, turned out to be a bad hard drive, they said something about certain series of seageate drives, that they often broke, like mine did. Now I have new drive, and old one is going to their factory/headquarters to be inspected or something like that. Well, thank you for your help:). Especially Caliban and Kestrel13!:). I hope this is my final post in this thread, hehe. Thanks!

Hello again, after few months:). Its back. The same error, although I have new hard drive. Symptoms are the same, crappy performance (games takes ages to load), constant freezes. Ive lost faith in those "experts". Is it possible that some other part in my PC destroys hard drives? Ive scanned HD with seatools, as well as few others, no errors found. Error ID number is 51, paging error on harddisk0. Curse?
EDIT: Maybe some HD/MB would help?
