Strange monitor issue

I just went to a friends house to try to fix the computer. He had that rogue anti spyware thing that pretends to be from XP. I do the scans and I go to restart it and thats when I noticed that the POST screen doesnt come up.

Nothing comes up on the screen untill the windows loading splash screen. The monitor just turns itself off like it does when you dont use it for a while, power save mode or whatever.

After it loaded up I needed to go into safe mode to try to do some scans because they wouldnt work in normal mode. I realized it would be impossible to get into safe mode the normal mothod of hitting f8 because nothing comes up untill the splash screen. So i go into msconfig and set it to safeboot by default.

I restart and then I realise that nothing is happening. No POST screen, and even after about 10min... no XP splash screen.


For some reason its not getting a signal. I dont know what to do here because I cant get into BIOS or anything. And the monitor doesnt so anything, even when i used the buttons on the monitor and switched it to not turn off when theres no input.

Im all out of Ideas. I know the monitor works because I was using it before this happened. Same goes for ruling out that the onboard video is bad.

Any help would be appreciated.

I know this is partly a hardware issue but it also sounds like you have a malware or virus issue also , try posting in the malware section, maybe someone has an idea on how to get you at least running so you can get the scans done.
