Strange power ups??

Hi all.
I've heard of random shutdowns but mines the other way around.
I kept finding my comp on when I thought it was off.
Maybe it had hung on shutdown or the kids or the wife had put it back on, so I thought i'd hit the big button before I went to bed and wait for it to go off and it did, all went quiet, no hd activity, no lights, no fans it was well and truly OFF.
I got up in the morning and it was on????
What can cause this?
I am using Filseclab firewall and I haven't got my anti virus on any auto settings. Even if I had, how does it turn itself on, could it be a dodgy power button?

Its only been recently and no hardware or anything has changed.
Could a hacker boot it this way??

 

WOL (Wake On LAN) cannot be configured from windows. It is a motherboard feature and should be turned on/off from the BIOS. I'm guessing your computer has it turned on and somebody is toying with it

Tim, the Panda scan wont happen, it tells me there is an error. I have installed the active x and also tried a reboot but still no good, perhaps it can't get past the firewall?

erikske, will i find the option to turn off the WOL easily, is it in any particular section in the bios?

Nope, it just dont wanna scan me.
I'm behind a router as well, maybe it's that.
I'll take a look in the bios for this WOL thingy.

 

It's probably in the Power Management section.

 

O.k.
This one is scanning, it found four viruses and deleted them but they were in my virus vault already.
I thought a programme like this would ask before deleting anything??
Dont suppose it can hurt as they were already isolated and out of use.
It says it has over two hours left to scan so I will wait and see.

Have you checked your BIOS to see if any settings have mysteriosly changed? I had the same prob a while back. No LAN involved on this machine. The BIOS just mysteriously changed to start the thing up at 05:23 every day. Reset the BIOS and haven't had a problem since.

 

umm yeah, have you overlooked the possibility that maby your kids turn it on before everyone gets up in he morning.... I used to wake up at 4 in the morning and turn on my dad's computer and get online...
