    Hi,

First, I am familiar with the Read & Run Me First section! :)

My family called me and said they are having trouble with their email/internet. About a month ago, they were having the same issues I am about to describe, but I ran a bunch of "cleaning" processes (CCleaner, SpywareBlaaster, etc.), installed updated antivirus and a firewall. Now it seems as if the problem is creeping back in.

What is happening now is that they are able to login to email, but not able to open any. Or they can open some emails, but never any attachments. Also, most websites will eventually return them an "Unable to Connect" error.

Before I hit their house this weekend and begin posting logs, might this not be malware? They are running XP and have Comcast internet, phone and cable. I am wondering if maybe the issue lies with Comcast even though their cable and phone are working perfectly.

Also, as I mentioned above, the orginal problems they had started this way and eventually got so bad that they couldn't run any programs.

Thanks in advance for any preliminary input. I know not much help may be available until I can get there and run programs and post logs, but I thought I would give it a shot!

Problems seem clear - logs attached

After running all of the cleaning, the internet issues my family was having (that I referred to in another thread without logs) seem to have cleared up. The logs are attached for review.

    Some notes:

I was unable to enable viewing of hidden files/folders until after Malwarebytes was run, so SAS was completed without hidden files showing.

If you notice a missing firewall, that is because this computer uses Online Armor, which the instructions state to uninstall to run ComboFix correctly.

CCleaner is not a malware removal tool. It is a temp file and registry cleaner. Also SpywareBlaster is not a scanner/cleaner of anykind.

Normally this is just a setting in the email program not allow ing it to show attachments. It is a safety feature.

Possibly. The only way we will know is by seeing the logs.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    Java(TM) 6 Update 11

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - (no file)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment
    Now run Ccleaner!
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Things seem to be running well for most, but one user is still having the same issues. I am going to run through some of the processes on just that user account.
    Current logs are attached!

Another potential problem showed in this users logs. Please try to stop anyone from using this PC to play games while we are cleaning it. It is possible that some of these items I'm seeing and removing could be driver/rootkit like files due to games. Games like MapleStory and similar are notorious for doing things like this and then not cleaning up after themselves. Then things are left laying around that are detected as malware.
