Strange problem with CD-rom drive

Hey all,
I'm having a wierd problem with my CD rom drive. It refuses to open if you have a burned cd in the drive and windows is running. It will neither open manually nor will it open if I try to eject it via the CD rom drive icon on the desktop. The only way to get the CD out is to reboot and open the CR rom drive as Windows is rebooting. I am currently running Windows XP home.

Not all cdroms are created equally!

You need to tell us your OS and what cdrom and filmware/drivers you have. Alot of times problems can be resolved updating the cdroms filmware + drivers.

 

My operating system is Windows XP home. My CD rom drive is a Samsung CD-R/RW 240B. It's driver is version 5.1.2535.0 and has not been updated since 2001. Please forgive the latness of my reply.

 

Click here for your firmware update, that might solve your problem ... Here is how to install it ... it is different for each drive and can be abit tricky but the flash player instructions weren't working for me ... hopefully it will work for you

 

You said ONLY with burned CD's, correct? What format did you use to burn them? Does Direct CD run at startup? Try disabling Direct CD from Task Manager & see if you can open the drive.

Sometimes it thinks it is still trying to format a CD & won't "let you destroy it" by opening the drive.
