Strange Problem

Hi,

This is really strange.

I have windows xp operating system.

The problem I'm having is that when I power down the computer
and then power it up again the keyboard and monitor do not come on.

The computer has successfully booted but keyboard is inactive and monitor power light is blinking. Also green light on computer is blinking and it is usually on with no blinking under normal conditions.

Now here is the strange part....It only seems to happen on the administrative user. When I go on on my user then power down, I have to turn off the power button on back of the computer so that the monitor and keyboard will function upon start up.

If I go on another user account for my wife or children's users then power down and turn back on it all comes back on ok, unless I hit 'restart' computer instead of 'shut down', then it does the same thing as on my user when it restarts.

Since it does not happen on all users it does not seem to be hardware related. It seems to have something to do with some type of settings during the boot process on my user.

And it seems to happen on all users during a warm boot (restart) but not on a cold boot (shut down). It only happens on the administrative account during a cold boot.

Also, I have added no new hardware or software or memory recently, it just started out of nowhere.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The account that's acting up is going into either standby or hibernation, and is not shutting down properly. All I can think is that the power saving settings were changed somehow.... but, then again, I could be wrong about everything

Log in to the account that's acting strange. Go to the Control Panel > Power Options, and look at these tabs: Power Schemes, Advanced, and Hibernation. If Hibernation is enabled, disable it and see if that fixes the problem.
