 -I run all the reccomended programs, firewall, windows bitdefender, avg active gard
-Also did all the scans: spybot, ad-aware, avg, antivir, ccleaner
latest versions and up to date definitions
-Using mozilla, explore is immunized; still unused
-Did hijack this log and autoanalyzer online said nothings wrong except coupon bar which I want to keep
-OS is windows 2000 proffessional, all updates accept windows media player 9 which i think is a hog

Problem: new hardware detected and started installing on its own after computer was on over 2 days without restart and NO new devices installed, also non unplugged then replugged in...

Computer is running really slow, cpu making strange noises(bad sound card comes in handy sometimes)

Several webpages recently have "performed illegal operations" in mozilla which reccomended restart and I restarted mozilla immediatly

Also several unauthorized access attempts while on a forum

I'm stumped! Maybe not downloading wmp 9 is a problem and I need to dL wmp 7 to fix security holes????

    HI

Well this could be may things from failing hardware, to malware... but without seeing everything that is installed on your PC, I'm going to guess at you have 2 AntiVirus scanners installed? ( possibles are AVG, AntiVir and Bitdefender... altho Bitdefender maybe the online scan if you run that? )

But if you do have 2 Antivirus scanners installed, uninstall one of them as they will conflict and cause raddom errors and almost everytime slow a pc down, especially when opening applications and scanning with AVs or Antispyware software.

Your noise from the CPU area, if sounding like a high-ish pitch vibration noise which may or may not settle after a few minutes from bootup, is most likely a dust covered CPY fan or a failing fan, the Noise is metallic in nature maybe a failing Hard Drive which in both cases can explain strange noises.

but to rule out malware as the cause you will have to follow the below guide and attach the requested logs,

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

I'm going to go through all of those and thanks for the tips.

I wanted to say I have 2 antivirus progs installed buy I chose not to install the active gard portion of antivir, so only one active antivirus gard on.

And I have bit defender installed it runs all the time in the background and do scans so i'm guessing wouldnt' need to scan.

Firefox is going on about illegal operations again, will post back with results, etc.!
