OK, need some help. This is a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. Won't connect to the internet because the RCS server is not available. I can ping 127.0.0.1. When I unplug the network cable, it shows a cable is unplugged. When plugged in, it just keeps trying to get an IP. DCHP is screwy.

Seems like I have run across this before, and was an easy fix, but not having any luck. It has Avast on it, did a safemode full scan, nothing found. Something is telling this puter not to get an IP. It is set to auto IP and all.

    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Try checking all the dependencies for that service are started.
Can you set a static IP address and get a connection?

OK, did the Winsock reset, no luck. Setup a static IP, don't work. I got this from the Win diagnostic.

Sorry about the poor formating, could not get it copied in a formated fashion.

How do I check RPC server dependencies? The computer gives an message that the network cable is disconnected when I unplug the Cat5.. I am missing something simple I think.

    Thanks for the help!

The RPC locater is dependent on Workstation, which I set to automatic startup.

Weird. The computer can tell if a cat 5 is connected. I did a sfc /scannow (think that is the correct command) It asked for the Windows disk, and finished the scan.

The DHCP Client will not start. Says 'error 1075: The dependency service does not exist , or has been marked for deletion'. Seems I need the AFD.sys? This is listed in the dependency of DHCP and TCP/IP. One confused little laptop!

I did some looking around. For some reason the AFD service is not shown. It is in the C:/i386 folder and is in sytem32\drivers. :confused

Quick update, this one needs the netBT service put back in the registry. Talked to my friend, he just wants his photos, so they are backing up now. Will just try a repair install. Should work.

    Thanks!

    Hi Fred,
Just a quick thought, and maybe it's in your one post, but I can't tell.
Does it have an IP address at all? If so is it 192.168.x.x or 169.254.x.x

No, it had no IP. DNS, DHCP, and all were not running. It was telling itself not to get an IP. That twas the problem. Fixed now. Will take it to it's owner Sat.
The NetBT is a dependent of the mentioned processes.

    New one on me.

    I see.
I was thinking it was an APIPA thing at first.
