I ran Secunia PSI and was instructed to uninstall RegCleaner as it is no longer supported and may be a security issue. Is there a program any of you suggest for cleaning the registry to replace RegCleaner? I use CCleaner and I recently installed Advanced Windows Care, but it seems RegCleaner still catches issues these other two do not.

Is Secunia right in saying that I should get rid of RegCleaner? I feel pretty confident in the cleaning that RegCleaner does and I don't do any manual registry weeding without the guidance of someone who knows more than I. Really, I'm afraid that other programs may not be as careful as RegCleaner.

As far as my slow system, is it likely that my CPU is just too dated and can't handle much of action? I've done a lot of cleaning of my system and have seen a small improvement, but I still run into CPU usage snags more than I'd like. Also, streaming video online doesn't work well.

Ok. I will simply remove RegCleaner then. Thanks. :)

While the sun shines out of CCleaner's porthole, it doesn't find everything. :cry

Check these out. Each day I use (in this sequence):-
    CleanUp! 4.5.2

Turn up the volume for a laugh. :-D

    CCleaner Slim (No Toolbar) 2.10.618

    The MG favourite. :cool

    Advanced WindowsCare v2 Personal 2.8

It will frightem hell out of you when you run it for the first time, but don't worry it is only building up its' own database. ;)

    MRU-Blaster 1.5 - 3/28/2004

MRU-Blaster is a program made to do one large task - detect and clean MRU (most recently used) lists on your computer.
My note: Don't worry that it is 4 years old. It still works perfectly. Each program finds stuff that the previous program misses. Think outside "the box" and try them.

I use all of those but CleanUp! The warnings on CleanUp! download page worry me a bit as I'm running Office 2003 and I'm not sure if I'm running XP 32 or 64 bit.

I've never had any issues with Cleanup! I've run it daily for years. I would guess that if you don't know whether you are running XP 32 or XP 64, then you are running XP 32. You would certainly know if you were running XP 64 as it is a rare bird. Bazza

I've got it installed, but can you tell me what I should have checked for a routine clean up...

recycle bins, newsgroup cache, newsgroup subscriptions, cookies, prefetch files, all users, bookmarks, game scores, fully erase

Currently, I have all but the last 3 checked. Specifically, should I delete prefetch files on a regular basis? I also like the option that CCleaner gives of saving commonly used cookies, so I'm thinking I might want to uncheck the cookie cleaner.

NO its not, it advises that the applciation is out of date, but that does not mean its a bad application, some software support or development may have ended but those applications are still viablely good, if you like what RegCleaner does then continue to use it.

Other software sugegsted in this thread is equally good and in the case of CCleaner its actively still being fine tuned and developed.

MY CC defaults. These MAY not suit you. ;) I don't keep cookies, and clean Prefetch daily using my CC defaults. See thumbnails attached. Hopes this helps. Bazza
