    Hi,

My husband has a computer that is never connected to the internet and he wants to get some games for it... I can download patches and such for him as needed on my machine.

His computers stats are (roughly lol) as follows:

    Processor: 1.2GHz
    RAM: 512MB
Video card: NVidia GeForce FX(?) 5500 (256MB) DirectX 9.0
    Sound card: Sound Blaster 24bit

He has about 36GB free space on his hard drive.

A sampling of what he has liked thus far...

    PC:
    Dungeon Lords: Collector's Edition
    Sid Meiers's Pirates
    Baldur's Gate
    Neverwinter Nights: Diamond Edition

    PlayStation I & II:
    Gran Tourismo - all editions
    Bard's Tale
Final Fantasy (several, including the one titled Tactics)
    ChronoTrigger
    Soviet Strike
    Breath of Fire
Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War
    Need for Speed: Most Wanted

    Sega Saturn:
    Virtua Cop
    Gun Griffon
    Panzer Dragoon
    Virtua Fighter
    Hexen

Again... Looking for PC games that will work on his machine and do not require internet access.

Also, can anyone tell me if you HAVE to have an internet connection for the Warcraft III games or Age of Wonders 2: Shadow Magic? Or can they be played as stand-alone?

Any help would be helpful, of course. lol

Thanks Shanemail, but most of those sound like semi-modern war games. lol Also he tried Civilization and did not like it at all.
He is such an odd game player as to what he does and does not like... I am hoping to field a lot of suggestions that fall easily within his specs.
Trying this one game at a time searching is taking me hours and I am coming up with very little to show for my time.
Okay... it is bed time, I just read what I said^ and it doesn't sound right, lol, too cranky.

Warcraft III - The Burning Legion and Warcraft III - The Frozen Throne do not need an internet connection, but can be played over the internet on multiplayer. They are both really good games, and those specs will be ok, my computer plays it well and it is about half as good as your husbands.

    Deffo worth getting.

    ;)

lol Already had it in mind to buy the Battle Chest for Warcraft III, Wayne, lol twisted minds think alike?

Thanks JakeD, hubby doesn't often like shooting games when set in modern times though... should have said that in my first post. I know with some of the other example games I listed it seems like he would like FPS in modern setting. Sorry for the confusion.

viper_boy403, Looked at Starcraft and C&C... showed them to hubby, he isn't interested.

Thus far it is just Warcraft III that has any appeal for him.

He likes RPGs with action, he hated Myst and other strictly puzzle games and like I said, if it is a FPS then the context of it makes a big difference to him.

So... long story gets longer, lol... any RPG/FPS that will work with his specs? lol (At this point I am feeling like I could make a dust mote intricate and confusing. lol)

Baldur's Gate 2, Icewind Dale 1&2, he might like Sacred.

If he likes Final Fantasy Tactics, he might like Battle for Wesnoth. Total Annihilation, is a kind of sci-fi RTS, and Spring, which is a 3D engine, for TA.

Thanks Abz, lol, he's not... but every suggestion helps to point me in the right direction.

Thus far we have ordered Warcraft III Battle Chest and are looking at getting:
    Warlords Battlecry III
    Dungeon Siege 1&2
    Sacred: Gold
    Divine Divinity

I don't think you HAVE to have internet connection for any of those... if I am wrong, please tell me?

If he's ever played and liked Diablo, or the Console Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, he'll probably like Sacred. Wikipedia's a good listing of games, and www.gamefaqs.com has them by platform and category.
