Hello, first time but 3 days of this and frustrated. Linksys tech could not help and earthlink could not help. I get a microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Program C\WINDOWS\surfmonkey\smproxy.exe Terminates in an unusual way. This is causing me to not be able to access the internet. The linksys monitor says "You are connected to the access point, but not the internet" I know this is from Earthlink Total Access, which I have installed and uninstalled several times. I now have it uninstalled but still have surfmonkey folder. I found in when I went to explore. I tried to delete it, But it will not delete Estream.dll, Redlight.dll, smproxy it says someting about them being protected. I do not know much about computer but I am very frustrated. I can still go on line on my primary computer just not the one using the wireless because of this. I hope someone can help. Thank you.:cry

Start by downloading a tool we will need - Pocket KillBox

Save it to its own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate it later.

Now run Pocket Killbox by doubleclicking on killbox.exe
    • select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    • Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files.
    • Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.
NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue.

    Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C\WINDOWS\surfmonkey\smproxy.exe
    C\WINDOWS\surfmonkey\Estream.dll
    C\WINDOWS\surfmonkey\Redlight.dll
    C\WINDOWS\system32\Estream.dll
    C\WINDOWS\system32\Redlight.dll
    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But if you do get this message, please let me know!)

If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.
After reboot locate the below folder and delete if found:
    C\WINDOWS\surfmonkey

Did that get rid of the files?

If Surfmonkey is being installed by Eartlink, you need to stop using Earthlink. Is Surfmonkey running on your primary computer too?

Chaslang, Since I can not go on line with that computer I assume you mean for me to download it to primary, burn to a cd then put it on my problem computer. Yes? No surfmonkey is not on my primary. I think it end up on the other one from a version of earthlink total access in 2004. thank you for responding I will let you know the outcome.

    Yes!

See the below link from Earthlink which may be useful in dumping Total Acces (maybe it should be called Totally No-Access :) )
