    Hi,

I have completed, or tried to complete all steps in the READ and RUN me first thread. I could not run CC cleaner it came up with a message that said Runtime error "0". And the windows defender would not run my computer started windows installer but then could not go any further, there was a problem with running the installer. I was able to complete all other steps and several malware and adware items were found, some could not be removed.

I tried the "special removal procedures" for surfsidekick and the BFU didn't seem to work. I am attaching my logs from bitdefender, panda, and hijack this. I am not sure where to go from here and any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

You have quite a few problems that we need to fix! Start by running this:

    Qoologic Removal Procedure

Save a log and attach it here when you back.

Now goto Add/Remove programs and uninstall the below:
    Search Bar
    Security Toolbar

Now run this Look2Me VX2 Removal and attach the requested log.

No move on to my next message.

Start by downloading - Pocket KillBox

Extract it to its own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate it later.

Please run HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools Section button on the open page. Then select Open process manager on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click Kill process. Then click yes.

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\{A481B404-0AE9-1033-0517-040416200001}\Update.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\WNSXS~1\nopdb.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.HOME-B507F311E6\Application Data\?ssembly\w?wexec.exe

After killing all the above processes, click Back.
Then please click Scan and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now ( some of these may already be gone due to previous steps - just ignore them and continue)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now run Pocket Killbox by doubleclicking on killbox.exe
Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files.
Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.
NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue.

    Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.

    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message!).
If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

Now attach a new HJT log and tell me how the steps went.

Download the current version of ShowNew.

Now attach new logs from ShowNew and GetRunKey.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Thank you so much! Things are working correctly now, no pop ups or slow speed. When I ran the Look2Me, I wasn't able to get a logfile and it got rid of my IE, I wasn't sure where it went, but I read about using Firefox, so I downloaded that and am using that now. I am attaching all other logs requested except the Look2Me, since I wasn't sure how to get one. Thank you for all your help!

I plan to follow the steps for protecting against malware. You suggest using something besides Norton for AV, correct? I am having problems with it anyway so should I uninstall that?

I have one more question, should I delete the fix this, killbot, and look2me programs and files that are on my computer now that I am finished?

  9. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

But you are not finished. It does not look like you ran the procedure completely. Many things are still showing in your log.

You did not uninstall the two programs I asked you to uninstall in message # 4?
Did you apply the registry patch?
    Did you get any errors?
Did you remember to click FIx checked in HijackThis?
Did you actually use Pocket Killbox to delete all those files? It does not seem so.

You did not download the new version of ShowNew as I requested.

Please run ALL steps from beginning to end in the order written and make sure you do not skip anything. Make sure to download the new ShowNew and use it.

  10. noclue124

I did run all the steps you listed. When I did the fixme.reg, when I clicked on it after I had put it on my desktop, it just said "are you sure you want to add this to your registry" and I clicked yes. Then it just closed and did nothing else. Not sure if that was correct. I ran all the steps you listed again today. When I did killbox today, it did not add any files to be removed when I copied your text and pasted it in there. I am assuming this is because they are already gone? I ran the new "show new" also today. Here are the logfiles from HJT, Qoofix, and show new. I will put runkeys in the next post. Thank you for all your help, I am not sure if I did something wrong, I hope not!

Okay something seems to be blocking some of the fixes. Let's try somethings to get around this. Uninstall Windows Defender and then also shut down your antivirus program. Then continue onto the below steps.

First please download the new version of ShowNew just posted (Using ShowNew )
Get a new log right now before continuing and ALSO attach it right now before you continue (otherwise you will overwrite it with the next log).

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Please run HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools Section button on the open page. Then select Open process manager on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click Kill process. Then click yes.
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\{A481B404-0AE9-1033-0517-040416200001}\Update.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\WNSXS~1\nopdb.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.HOME-B507F311E6\Application Data\?ssembly\w?wexec.exe

After killing all the above processes, click Back.
Then please click Scan and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    <--- the whole folder:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\azn.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\pfchwq.exe
    C:\Program Files\WNSXS~1\nopdb.exe <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\oukr <--- the whole folder
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.HOME-B507F311E6\Application Data\?ssembly <--- the whole folder
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\crunner <--- the whole folder

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Note for IE 7 users: You need to select Internet Options then the Advanced tab and then Reset Internet Explorer Settings!

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Also attach a new log from ShowNew and a new log from GetRunKey.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

When I try to upload the newfiles log, the forum is not allowing me to upload it, it says that I already uploaded this file to this post. I am not sure what to do.

  15. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

That means that what you are trying to upload is the same exact file. Are you sure that the file you are trying to upload is a NEW log. Does it have a date and time inside the file on about line 14?

  16. noclue124

    noclue124 Private E-2

I ran the Shownew and did a "Save as.." and saved it then tried to upload it, it had today's date on it. I went on and completed the steps you posted in your last post, here are my logs. Everything seems OK, I am using Firefox instead of IE but I did reset my web settings like you asked. I also didn't see some of the files you listed on the items to delete and I made sure I was showing hidden files per the tutorial.

I hope I am clean now, if so what is my next step?

Thank you for all your help

Use HJT to fix the below left overs:
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {406CF548-3EF2-4703-F5AD-6943C111F6C8} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\bcmzu.dll (file missing)

    Then exit HJT.

Attach a new HJT log so we can be sure you are clean!.

Now delete all files in the C:\!Killbox folder.

Now delete the whole C:\Program Files\Deskbar folder.

Now delete the fixme.reg file on your Desktop.

Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Then uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
