   I know svchost is not a virus. Ive read that errors and other problems in your computer can cause your Svchost.exe to spike to 99% CPU usage. This is what has happened to my computer. I found a download that says it cures this problem but I was not sure if it was legit and was hoping there was a free download out there I could use to fix this problem.

   I doubt it, but it would be alot more useful to us if you would be specific and tell us what "download" you are referring too.
   
   There are many things that can cause spikes in svchost.exe. Some malware and some not malware.
