hey all I'm new here, first I'd like to say how helpful and great these forums are, now onto the good stuff! I currently have an HP A6700y, AMD phenom 4 quadcore processors, the question is, if i switch motherboards, am I restricted to only AMD motherboards? Anyone have any suggestions for a gaming board? Much thanks..

If you wish to keep using your AMD processor, you need an AMD compatible motherboard. Keep in mind that there may be attributes to your HP computer that is proprietary to HP hardware, and buying new hardware may cause problems with fitting.

I would suggest shopping at newegg.com. That way if the hardware you get does not work well with your HP equipment, you should be able to return it. For a gaming motherboard, I would suggest browsing ASUS motherboards. Look for a motherboard that can take plenty of fast RAM, and has multiple PCI-E slots for crossfire or SLI should you want it in the future.

Here is a winner of Newegg Customer Support Award and has the highest rating for ASUS motherboards. No SLI apparently, only crossfire. If you decide you want it, be sure to review that it has everything you need.
