    Greetings

Having problems with Sygate firewall blocking all upload/outgoing traffic while using ATT/Yahoo DSL. This includes forwarding emails, accessing some eamil (us.Army.mil), and some links in emails and websites. Have used same PC and laptop for years with Mediacom cable modem with no problems. Have made no changes to operating system except change to DSL after recent move to new home in same city. DSL properly installed with filters on phone lines, etc. Download speed check with Yahoo is good - 1.3 MB per sec, but upload is zero (0) with Sygate in Normal operating mode, and 330 Kb per sec with Sygate turned off. Can't find any option in this free version of Sygate to alter settings. ATT reports their DSL is working OK at my location. Any suggestions to troubleshoot and fix this issue? Obviously can't go without firewall....

My equipment/setup: Dell PC, Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop. Both with XP, Pentium 4, 20 GB HD, 512 Mb RAM. Bitdefender AV, free Sygate firewall.

    Thanks for any help.

To alter the sites blocked by Sygate personal firewall, right click on the icon in your system tray ( bottom right corner of your display, in case I used wrong terminology ), and left click on the Applications heading in the menu that will pop up. This will bring up the list of programs/applications that have been blocked or granted access, and from there you can change that status.

Might also check that any recent update hasn't enabled the Windows firewall and causing conflicts. I had this happen to me once. Hope this helps! :)

    Hello, Novice (and everyone else)

Thanks for your suggestion. I did open Sygate and checked applications. The DSL connection is "allowed", and I do have internet connection. What Sygate is blocking are uploads from my computer, i.e., when I fill out a form, when I use certain links on websites, and some websites (my Army email). I can access all these with Sygate turned off, but have zero upload bytes when it is on. There are no other applications I can ID in Sygate that need to be allowed for uploads to occur.

I hooked up my Belkin Wireless G Router per some posts I researched on MajorGeeks (DSL modem to Belkin, the Belkin to PC). I have internet connectivity, but the same upload problem still exists. I may have to reprogram the settings in the Belkin router? Not sure.

Question for All: The Belkin router states that it has its own firewall, so do I even need Sygate with Belkin router hooked up?

Thanks for any further guidance and advice....

Thanks, TunerEd - I am switching to Comodo firewall and see if that works. It's a simple solution.....
