Hey guys, i unistalled and put sygate firewall on my win xp machine. My question is sygate doesnt support fast switching, thus sygate shows up only on the first user logged on unless u logg off first and switch. My question is despite this, are all users still protected? Taskmanager shows the firewall runnin g under each user, and AOL detects a firewall.., so am i protected even though the icon doesnt show up? Also, i'm behind a router, so do u think aol detects that firewall?

    thanks

Good question, i never thought of it till now, i look forward to an answer like yourself..

But reading your set up you are pretty much safe..

Maybe you should install Sygate on all users accounts to insure protection, unless it already protects all accounts. If the icon doesnt show up just end its task using Ctrl+Alt+Del and restart Sygate.

AOL probably detects Sygate Firewall not your router.

This thread from the Sygate forum may answer your question

and with it's processes still showing in the task manager on the 2nd user then to me its still active and protecting you....

you could always test the software firewall on the switched user,

testing outgoing data packets use Leaktest

and if you want to test incoming then to test the software properly you would need to bypass the router ( as the router will filter data packets ) and use again from Steve Gibson ~ Shields Up the web bases tests ( you will find his site in the link above for Leaktest )

i did the leak test on the 2nd user , but i had to switch to the first one to block the outgoing message, sit blocks it. I think thats the only issue, u have to switch users to allow/deny connections but overall i think i am protected.

    Thanks for the replies guys

hey u know when i said sygate appears at the second user's taksmanager well it doesnt appear now, but when i click to show process for all users, it shows sygate as system. Does this mean sygate is on the whole pc?

    thanks

If Sygates processes are running then from what I have read about Sygate lastnight, you are protected... the ommission of Fast User Switching also is missing from their Pro version also!!
