    Greetings:

Just after I ran cc cleaner and AVG free and AdAware I pulled up my local cable website for TV Listings and my Computer went crazy duplicating Windows "Internet Explorer" Web Pages. It did not respond and I finally had to turn it off by unplugging it. When I turned the computer back on I only have Windows Internet Explorer tool bar and it is not customized and I have lost my Ask Tool bar which has the zoom.

Ok, no problem, will reload, but, the computer is acting kinda slow.

Do you think I picked up something my cleaning programs didn't see?

    Thank you for your help.

    Best regards,

    Ladycarr

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

    HI!

Well, Im having a great time! :) I have started at the top of the directions at least 3 times which is fine as I found a virus just this morning in AVG.Virus Vault.

    Agent.AV

C:\Documents and Settings\Jeanie\My Documents\index[2].htm Back up Copy Infected

    I deleated it.

I also used ccleaner to uninstall..? and I used control panel Add/Remove Windows Component to turn off "Messenger" I think I also turned off or deleted firewall. Also, I deleated two programs on the "uninstall Malware" list as recommended.

I downloaded GetRunKey and ShowNew key into a separate folder but have not yet unzipped.

I was wondering a couple of things:

Should I buy the Registry Booster from Uniblue... they found 266 errors?

If I am to purchase, I would prefer to buy AVG w/firewall because AVG free has helped me a lot over the past few years. May be I could download the 30 day trial until I get past this bad time with my computer. I don't have a firewall at this time.

Also, Diskeeper Lite has been very good to me and seem to deserve my support. I am on a limited budget, Im sorry.

Anyway, If you believe I need the Registry Booster from Uniblue, I will buy/download and then I will start from the top of the directions again .

    Thank you.

P.S. I called my Broadband Internet Provider. They ran a test and say everything is fine up to my computer and that my download speed is good ie 1.6. They suggested I go and buy more memory as I have 256 and should have 1 mb? I think this problem I am having ie, super slow IE pages coming up, is a virus or something because it happend all at once and I lost my original settings for Internet Explorer.

    Thank you for your help!

Do not buy anything ( other than some more ram ---> one stick of 256 will help with basic computer speed....consider your budget).

You can run AVG free ....download Zone Alarm.... ...Top Freeware picks.

Please finish the scans and attach the logs.

Thank you for all your help.

My computer is running very well right now. I installed Zone Alarm but have Zone Alarm Suite so I will have to figure out how to just have the Fire Wall.

I think part of my problem was having two conflicting programs, somehow. I took off "SpyDoctor"(I think it was Spydoctor) and my computer cleared right up plus catching a few viruses ... one in the DOS Boot.

Monday I hope to get more Ram. Right now I am enjoying my computer... speeding around the internet. Thank You so Much! I thought for a little while there my computer was terminal. .... May be its just that (Spydoctor) or what ever it was took too much memory.

Thank you, again! Thank you so much!

    God Bless,

    Jeanie (Ladycarr)

    Well, Im back...

I will have to go through the directions in Read and Run me first all the way.

My computer complains of low virtual memory. It is really scary slow. I must have a lot of stuff loading up in the back ground.

I tried to uninstall Zone Alarm so that I could install Zone Alarm free, True Vector Software Services is running and I can't seem to turn it off.

I did the ccleaner and Disklite and AVG free Virus scan. All ok. I am having a real hard time with add/remove it gets stuck and I have to wait a long time for any response.

If I can???... May be I should uninstall all Yahoo... as it appears I have two Yahoo tool bars and I believe they may contain firewalls or anti Virus??

Also, Strangely.... In ccleaner tools, I see dozens Security Update for Windows XP (KB890046) (KB893066) (KB893756) etc. and for Hot Fix.

I checked and found that I had downloaded GetRunKey and ShowNew into a folder in C:\Documents and Settings...... just like the directions warned me not to.... so I deleted will empty recyle bin and download again.

Should I get rid of the two Yahoo Tool Bars???

    Thank you for your help.

    Best regards,

    Ladycarr

Yes you can get rid of the yahoo toolbars...
This quite normal ....necessary updates to your system.

Please attach the requested logs, as I have no idea what is going on with your computer without them.

    Dear Tim:

Thank you, again, for all your help.

The computer was down to "sitting still" with error messages about vertual memory low. I took the computer in to upgrade to 1 GB DR400 of RAM and the owner suggested I leave it for him to remove the spywear... he said it turned out to be a corrupted file??

He restored system files back to 5-30-07, and Disabled some start-up programs. (Just between you and I, that was the day after I started having trouble..worrie, worrie, worrie)

So far it is working fine, for now.

Do you think I should continue with the "Read and Run Me First"? Or just wait for trouble ... :). (I probably did the whole thing to myself...)

Thank you again, for your help and moral support.

    Best regards,

    Ladycarr (Jeanie)

Well, I found a glitch.... My Word Perfect Mail program shuts down in the middle of opening. I wonder if ZoneAlarm email monitor is conflicting with the built-in Word Perfect Mail one.

I guess Its back to the drawing board.

I was wondering.... do you send error reports to Microsoft When They Ask?

    Thank you,
    Ladycarr

No I don't bother ...does no good for the user.

Perhaps you would like to finish doing the malware scans and posting the logs ....and yes, zone alarm could be messing with your mail programs (although I am not real familiar with all the settings), though I'm sure it would not shut the program down.
