Hi! I'm another newbie with Sysnotifier.exe and XPshield annoyances like a bunch of others. I've read the other threads and went by MajorGeeks's famous Malware removal guide, but sysnotifier.exe keeps coming back, and I get messages like "cisvc.exe - this programs has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". The same msg happens for explorer.exe, and sysnotifier.exe takes up so much cpu that I have to ctrl+alt+del and manually end the process as soon as the sysnotifier msg pops up in the lower right corner of my screen taskbar. I'd really appreciate the help... I've gone through the steps and am attaching the following logs (in the order I ran the prgms): SASlog.txt, malwarebytes, combofix.txt, mglogs.zip
    Thanks in advance! :cry

    Let's do this:

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now use windows explorer to find and delete:
    c:\program files\Common Files\InstallShield\ocmperf.dll

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Be sure to tell us how things are running.

Thank you so much for such a prompt response! I really appreciate it!

I ran MGTool's version of HJT (analyze), checked the files you told me to check, had the program fix it, and then exited. I also made fixME.reg and entered it into my computer. However, when I tried to delete c:\program files\Common Files\InstallShield\ocmperf.dll, the computer wouldn't let me, stating that it is being used by another program. What program could it possibly be? I was pretty sure that I had disabled all the anti-spyware programs - so in the end, I was not able to delete the file and proceed with the other steps.

    Try this:

download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

So I used Avenger to delete that stubborn .dll file, the computer rebooted automatically, and to my surprise, no error messages, no sysnotifier eating up the cpu, and no xpshield warnings! :) Here are the logs because I'm paranoid about it coming back! Thank you so much!

p.s. I don't want to get ahead of myself, but after downloading so many antispyware programs, mgtools, ccleaner, etc., (and something I did earlier having to do with the recovery console has my computer going to the choices screen before startup), I don't know how to go about getting my computer fully back to normal. Are all those programs necessary?

Looks good. Let's do one more thing:

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now as to the other questions --->

First, having the recovery console installed will allow you to boot into it in case of system failures. You will see a brief screen flash for that option on boot....you can ignore it as it will automatically boot to windows.

    As for the rest:

If you are not having any other malware issues, then:

I will go ahead and do that. This is day two of blissful message free computer usage, and it's all thanks to you! Thank you so much! :D
