My system just crashed. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate.

I was running many application including, After Effects, when the system just froze and I have to perform a hard reset.

When I restarted I know something was wrong when I saw the message "Preparing your desktop" after logon.

Now my user account is damaged. The desktop is like a new install and when I try to run an application I am told that my Internet security level is preventing it from running.

And to top that off, my system restore turns out to have been off.

I have a backup, but it want to restore the whole drive (and the backup is 6 days old (I know, I should have kept it current).

Is there any way to use the backup and restore my user account?

    Thank you for any assistance.

Try pressing F8 in advanced user mode choose "last known good configuration", see if that helps you !
