System Defender - Problems remaining after removal

I'm using Windows Vista, and was recently hit with System Defender, and after running through the steps in READ & RUN ME FIRST, seemed to manage to get rid of it (thanks mainly to MalwareBytes). However there are still some serious residual problems:

-Right clicking on any icon within a window causes explorer.exe to crash (Explorer.exe also crashes every time I shut down the computer, though this isn't itself problamatic)
-My hosts file has been editted, mainly preventing me from accessing google properly. No matter what I do I absolutely cannot take it off read only, even when using Vista's administrator account or File Assassin. HostsXpert was also unable to help
-Firefox occasionally tries to redirect to an ad page rather than attempting to load the page I was actually linked to. The way it does this is slightly odd. It instantly loads up a new page with the same background colour as the one I was on, without chaing the URL in the address bar, then from there loads the hijacking page. Even if I mousewheel click to open the link in a new tab, it remains in the same tab and does the same.

These are the ones I've noticed, but there may be more.

I should also note that at the time of infection I had a program called StartupMonitor activated, which allowed me to block a couple of the programs from adding themselves to startup (specifically WS7e28.exe which it attempted to add every time I started up Windows). Though obviously this wasn't enough to avert problems, it may have changed exactly what happened.

I've included logs from the programs I used. I wasn't able to get RootRepeal working, but the rest I ran in the order suggested.

The scans took care of alot but there is work that remains to be done -

    But what about AV??

    1. Why are you using this machine without having any anti virus installed or a third party firewall? You are leaving yourself wide open to infection!

    2. Before we continue I would like for you to ensure that this machine is starting up normally by using MSConfig, if you haven't already done so.

    3. Please go to add/remove programs and uninstall the below junk:

    • XoftSpySE

    4. Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    5. Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\SM.exe
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\PE.sys
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\fan.exe
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\ANTIGEN.sys
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\PE.dll
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\gid.drv
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\ANTIGEN.exe
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\exec.exe
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\CLSV.drv
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\grid.drv
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\PE.drv
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\energy.exe
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\eb.drv
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\eb.exe
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\FS.sys
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\kernel32.dll
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\FW.sys
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\pal.exe
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\ppal.drv
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\delfile.sys
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\cb.drv
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\dudl.dll
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\cid.dll
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\exec.drv
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\snl2w.sys
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\cb.dll
    c:\windows\S88F9086B.tmp

    DirLook::
    c:\users\Ben\AppData\Local\temp
    c:\users\postgres\AppData\Local\temp
    c:\users\postgres.PC\AppData\Local\temp
    c:\users\Default\AppData\Local\temp
    c:\users\elephant\AppData\Local\temp
    c:\users\Administrator\AppData\Local\temp
    c:\programdata\WSYOPGD_APDM

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    6. Navigate to your c:\windows\system32 directory using windows explorer and tell me whether the following file exists or not:

    7. Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix.

And also let me know about C:\system32\pnrpnsp.dll and whether it is indeed present on the machine or not. Is your internet connection ok?

    8. Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!
