I wasn't sure what section to post this in :confused

Windows and its components are on Drive C, the main HD.

I also have a second HD, K that I use to install games and software, and J that I use for saving music, photos and other personal files.

For some reason, J has a whole colony of System Files from who know where, maybe a backup from some other century....

Would it be safe to backup what I want to K drive, format J and then put back what goes there?

    Thanks!

Is J a third hard drive or a second partition of drive K?
Also, can you give us details of at least some of the System Files on K?

J & K are partitions on the second hard drive.
I don't have details of the files, they don't show up on the list but when I do a scan with Defraggler, they are all there occupying territory.

    That was quick!
Under Location, does it say System Volume Information?

Yes it does, they are all in the same folder by that name.

Those are System Restore points. Remove them with Windows' Disk Cleanup. The newest will not be removed.

    huh

Any idea why they get shoved onto the J drive?

Also, I regularly "remove" restore points via CCleaner, but I guess that is not so?

    I have no idea.
When you run Disk Cleanup, you select the partition before clicking OK.
Also, I suspect CCleaner doesn't actually remove the contents of the Restore Points because that folder is inaccessible.

OK, I'll do that. Otherwise, if I formatted the J drive, it would be fine?

If you backup the files you want, you can just format the partition. But, you wont have a single restore point. Running Disk Cleanup is so much easier and quicker.
