    Hi All,
Please be patient. I am self taught "Geek", mother of twins so the brain is a bit fried :-D
I have been working on a friends laptop for some time now. It is installed with Windows 7 Home Premium. The problem is IE freezing or simply slowing to a snails pace and eventually loading the page. It is not a constant problem but certainly interferes with use. For example when clicking on Facebook from the Favourites bar the grey circle in the tab will go around and around for some time & eventually load. This also occurs when simply clicking on the "E" IE icon on the taskbar. The grey circle stops rotating and the cursor is non responsive.

    So far I have:
Run virus/spyware/malware scans using MSE, SpyBot, SuperAntispyware and Malwarebytes. I have done these scans in and out of Safemode without network connectivity. Nothing interesting was found.
I have run Registry Mechanic, CCleaner and shexview as instructed by a previous thread.

I cannot think of anything else that may be doing this.

I have run speedtest.net. Download speed is 8.74Mbps and upload is .61Mbps. Interestingly, when I performed an isolation test and removed the splitter, the download speed went up to 12.93Mbps and upload was .61Mbps. This is a new splitter, which obviously has not fixed the problem either.

A new modem is being used to see if that fixed the problem, which it did not.

Any other suggestions please? Thanks for reading.

Go to Internet Options, click Advanced tab, then click Reset Internet Explorer. See if that helps.

    Hi Ella,

By 'splitter', you mean an ADSL filter? If so, that result may indicate some (very) bad wiring/extension leads on the internal phone side, lots of trial and error over several days or more, potentially, for a cheap 'fix'.

As to the Windows/IE problem, I'm unsure, is all the software updated (Secunia PSI is useful for that), plenty of hard drive free space, regularly cleaned up/defragged if the free space is less than ~30%?

Have you tried an alt. browser: Chrome, Firefox, Opera?
