system Freezes

    When i insert a cd into the Cd rom or when i select Windows Media Player 11 ,the system immediatly freezes and i have to press reset and reboot, has anyone else had this,and if so how did you fix it ?

    I am very careful about maintaining my computer and regulary go through all of the procedures that you have outlined ,i do not think its that sort of problem ,i can play any media streaming from Radio Stations so the sound is okay, it seems there is a conflict somewhere ,but where?

    for some unknown reason ,its all started working again, there was no problem listed in the Event viewer, and the CD/DVD indicates that this device is working correctly, I suppose one day they will devise a more stable system. anyway thanks for the advice.
