This is my second post for this issue. I tried the method described to me in my first post (take out the battery on the motherboard & hold in power button for 15-30 secs) and unfortunately it work.

Basically, I bought a computer that's only about 2 years old. It's a Dell Dimension 9200 with XP Home. It has a system password on it and I need to get around this in order to do a factory restore.
It won't even let me access the BIOS setup. Is there any way to hook the hard drive up to a different computer & delete a file or two to remove this password?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!:)

Unfortunately, I'm still having problems. Of the 4 different ways to eliminate the system password problem, 2 only work if you can get into the the system.

And for some reason, the other two didn't work as I had hoped. The first is taking out the batter - I took out the BIOS/CMOS battery and kept it out for about 2 hours. When I put it back in, & booted the comp back up, the old faithful System Password screen came up again.

The second method was using the jumpers on the motherboard. My motherboard only had two pairs of jumper pins (as opposed to the 3 pairs listed on the link.) When I switched them, the computer wouldn't even turn on. So I put the jumpers back to the way they were & I'm still stuck with the damn system password.

Are there any other methods I could try? Maybe I'm just missing something with these two methods I've tried. Ideas?

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ Boot disk with DOS. You tried backdoors? Imagine you tried it blank. Another way is to erase the EEPROM, but that requires a uv light for starters, I've erased plenty, but sold them as such. http://www.arlabs.com/help.htm This isn't the way to go, just a thought. Sooner or later you will want to access the BIOS, try the backdoors and then ubcd or ubcd for windows... http://www.ubcd4win.com/

The BIOS password may be cleared from a Dell Dimension by moving the password jumper on the motherboard. The location of the password jumper on a Dell Dimension motherboard can be found by reviewing the Dimension User Guides. For most Dell Dimension desktops, the steps to reset a BIOS password and clear all CMOS settings are: * Locate the 3-pin CMOS password reset jumper on the system board. * Remove the jumper plug from pins 1 and 2. * Place the jumper plug on pins 2 and 3 and wait approximately 5 seconds. * Replace the jumper plug on pins 1 and 2. http://www.tech-faq.com/dell-bios-password.shtml

I'll try the info you provided in your boot disk post. I've tried using the jumpers in your last post. However, the comp's motherboard has 2 pairs of jumpers, not a total of 3. I played around with moving the jumper with no luck. I'll try the boot disk method; hopefully that'll get me past the system password :)

Will the computer auto-boot from an inserted cd/floppy?
And unfortunately I don't know anything about using backdoors. How difficult is it?
