What most affects the operation of my computer? I have Win98 First Edition with a Pentium II and 64 MB of RAM. My System Resources say 50 percent free. I have only two things running all the time: McAfee anti-virus and a popup ad fighter called PopUp Ad Filter. It seems my computer won't run complicated programs with lots of graphics very well. I don't have any complicated games installed--just some Hoyle card and board games. Don't know if this is specific enough, but will appreciate any help.

You need more RAM. Simple as that. Add another 64MB and see what a world of difference it makes. You can supplement this by going to start..run.. typing MSCONFIG then hit enter and then go to startup and uncheck anything from that list that doesn' t need to be started up on boot.

The computers at my school run Windows 98 and windows has already taken 150 megabytes by the time it boots up. This is also because the computer tech believes that every computer should run a real-time viruscanner and use novell on computers only equipped with 128 megabytes of RAM. Adding enough RAM to not need to use to continually use the swapfile will greatly improve your system performance.
