    Hello.
My problem is i cant do system restore. I go into it,select a sys. res. point then it says "cannot restore, system file corruption in vista c".It then mentions a disk check, which does not find any problems on restart.I have down some scans with SPYBOT and others but nothing is found.Even in safe mode the same thing happens.Thanks.

    I would try ..................
Use the run command- I believe its under accessaries in Vista- I am not in Vista at the moment.
    sfc /scannow
, as you need to replace damaged files.
In Vista, you will need administrator rights- usually keep following the prompts, and if no other log in on your pc/laptop, then you should be able to run it.
Depending on your set up /installation, you might need to put your Vista disc in.
Otherwiseyou can run a repair from your Vista disc (if you have a pc/laptop that did not come with a seperate disc.
I would save as much of any important data, to cd/dvd, or usb stick, before trying any repair option, in case you lose it.
If you have a laptop, there is often an on-board repair by the manufacturer, by pressing certain buttons, and some even have that option in the program list.
Tell us more about your pc/laptop, and we might be of more help.

    Hello Baklogic.
I did the sfc /. and it said "no integrity violation found".Im not sure if there was a set-up disc, someone else set it up for me.The laptop is an ASUS 2007 F5 (X50RL)SERIES 32 BIT,vista.(i have found discs,2 of them mention driver and utility ver 2.0 and the other is ver 3.0,it also says"this cd runs automatically if Autorun is enabled, otherwise run SETUP.EXE.Are these the installation discs?)

First- have you copied any data that you will lose, if re-installing, as I suggested.
If so, have a look at Asus information so that you have a good idea what you have, and driver downloads,in case some are missing.-.
    http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

If, you were mistaken and have XP, then in the top of the page is a drop down box, here you can look up drivers , and the manual for all operating systems.
These pages go back to choosing your model, and you need to click the top box of the page that comes up, -three boxes, and choose your system, it is pretty self explanetary.

Now download the manual- near the bottom of the drivers list, for english manual, -a pdf file that opens with adobe reader- and go down to section 4.
You will see there, that the laptop usually has a driver and utility disc, but not always an operating syatem- but if you have two, you could be lucky- that other one could be the operating ststem- you will need to put it in and see what is on it- autorun lends me to believe it coul well be the operating system.
Some of thesemanufacturers discs run differntly to the standard operating system cd/dvd as they are specially made for manufacturers, so
1/ It is possible that you can still run a Vista repair from the disc, if it has the operating system on it.
2/ Also, if it has the operating system on the cd/dvd, you should be able to run it , and re-install , and then use the utilities disc to load the drivers (load the chipset driver first !), and any other utilities that came with the laptop.
I could see no reference to a hidden partition, but there is often one, to help with reinstallation, when running the recovery discs.
Let me know, how you get on.:)

    OK Baklogic,im getting nowhere fast.
Definitely Vista,32.The manual says the driver disc has all the drivers, utilities and software but not the operating system. It says a recovery cd includes an image of the original operating system installed at the factory.I have got a RECOVERY DVD(asus vista 32) which came with the computer.Printed on the disc, it says "the software on this dvd was pre-installed at the factory and can only be used for backup and recovery..".I have tried to use it but nothing is happening.I went into the BIOS menu to select boot from cd but i think all 3 options were checked/ticked.On restart, nothing. What you think?

I have done a lot of recovery's on different laptops, and sometimesthis sort of difficulty happens.
Sometimes you have to put the second disc in first, to activate the other cd/dvd- sounds a bit knaff, but that has often been the case- orth the try.
Otherwise, try putting the restore disc in, and run the laptop as usual, if it skipsthe cd/dvd- but when in windows, click on my computer, on the dvd drive, to see the contents, and look for the autorun on the dvd/cd
Double click it and see if it will load that way- I have seen it do this on some.
Sometimes it will offer the repair option from within windows, and see if it can repair- manufacturers dv/cd can work a little differently as they are specially produced - it may say that it needs to restart to work.
Otherwise, with the dvd/cd in the dvd drive, shut down, and start from a stopped machine, and try rebooting the system and pressing different keys
Try f9--in case it has a recovery partition, and it might then tell you how to proceed.
    If that does nothing
Try pressing and holding down F11
    Again or, F10
or Alt + F10 while its restarts, or,,
There are many different keys that are used by different systems, I will look into my old archives, as I cannot remember them all. I will look further, as it niggles me, but I am sure therer was one for the Asus that was something like F10 + r, or, F11, plus r, or, backspace to get into a hidden partition-
If you start up and press f8- does it offer 'repair my computer option other than system restore, as Vista has sometimes come up with that at f8.
    Good luck:boxing

Brilliant, hopefully that will do the trick!I haven't got very far just yet,i've been having reception problems as well.Just wondering do i have to turn off AVG/anti-virus before i start?

Funnily enough, that was a good question, about the antivirus.
I f you go off-line, then I would disable the antivirus , just in case- although it should not interfere.
I often copy whole partitions, and the antivirus has created unwanted interference.
    Good luck
Let us know how you get on

Always good to have a problem sorted- but even more pleased that you came back to tell us that it worked for you, so that others with the problem will find an answer here.
