System Restore, I cannot uninstall game files and stuff i need to reinstall to work..

I recently ran into an issue, for some stupid reason i disabled my antivirus, which was the avg free antivirus license from their website, and when i went to a website i got a popup from Xp Security Center, and after that all things went to hell..after which i turned the computer off and unplugged it, today when my uncle got home he did a system restore to like 3 weeks ago, and i was able to get a version of norton security suite downloaded from my ISP...

However...I cannot open or uninstall files like world of warcraft, and halo, or Itunes and stuff that i had deleted after the date that the recovery was set for (with the exception of world of warcraft that was there when i got the virus) now when im trying to get things back to where they need to be but i am having issued uninstalling programs like world of warcraft i get this message...

"uninstall.xml" could not be read. or even when im opening them they say they no longer exist or something similar, im really getting aggrovated trying to resolve the problem by myself as im not too educated on the topic of computers or anything to do with them...anyone out there that could help me out?

Sounds like you may have got an infection, from that pop-up probably. Just went through one last week. Did you click on anything like "scan now"?

What OS do you have? You now have Norton anti virus and you used to have AVG? AVG was uninstalled?

You downloaded Norton from your ISP, is this a free service they provide?

Yes, the popup i clicked on was disguised like the windows live security center which was installed ages ago on my comp and i had thought i had removed it so i clicked cancel and got a bunch of popups in background and then my comp started to bug out..

I have windows xp service pack 3 as my Operating system,

The Norton i got from my ISP is a free service they provide with their internet plan..

i did the system restore because i figured i couldnt mess my comp up more than it already was.. when i did this the infection seemed to go away, not sure if its just laying dormant somewhere..but i will try the things you have posted.

There is a good chance that the system restore did the trick. Not everybody is that lucky!
But do run through the process, the longer a virus is on a machine, the worse it usually gets. Even if you don't get any positives from the scans, I would still post them there to get the all clear.:wave:wave

Try other software for uninstaller like your uninstaller
