System Restore in Win Me won't work

I know, before any one blasts me on this os, that this is really a crummy os. So, with that said....
My system restore will not restore. It sits there and won't do anything. It says its in the process of restoring, but after an hour its still in the same position. Does anyone know how to reinstall that portion of windows?

I am thinking of getting Win xp home edition, but am not looking forward to the clean install. Sounds very time consuming.

For now you can try doing a repair installation. But definitely upgrade (ME is a headache). Also, make sure that you read instructions on how to do a repair installation before attempting to do so. The nice thing about this procedure is that your personal settings and personal files won't/shouldn't be affected.

The following are pointers, not instructions for a repair installation.
1. Otherwise you might press 'R' at the setup screen which you don't want to do.
2. You do need the installation disc to perform this.
3. You need the default Administrator password.
4. And about 1/3 of the way through the repair installation it will reboot itself...do not touch anything when it does that. The setup will continue shortly after boot.
5. Don't forget to back up important data just to be safe.
6. Turn a firewall on before reconnecting to the internet so that you're not exposed to worms, etc...
7. Immediately following go to MS Updates, and re-install all of your updates.
8. Reboot after all of your updates are done, and defrag.

Note. After getting your computer stable again it would probably be a good idea to post a HJT log in the malware forum just to be safe. : )
