A few days ago something just ate up over 70+ GB of my free memory i use to have 100 free but down to 30 GB free. I did the malwere removal and found nothing. So I went to do a system restore for a later time before this happened. But all of my system restore points failed. At first it would look like it is working but when is is finish it gives me an error and says nothing was done. My question is why won't it work

I don't know why System Restore won't work--sometimes your anti-virus will interfere. You could try disabling your anti-virus and see if it helps.

SpaceSniffer or WinDirStat might be able to show where your free space is going. Look for unusually large files.

    Hey there,

as an addition to the above, try checking or doing a search of files using date modified...this will tell you which files were altered on which date and see if these are duplicates of existing files.

If you have a t.v capture card make sure you didnt accidentally record something all night...like some one i know...:-o

Right click on Documents and Settings and click on properties. There is usually less than one gig in there but....You might find there is some large files in one of the Temp directories. Rename the directory to temp2, make anew temp directory and if nothing goes wrong in two or three days then delete the temp2 directory. Hope this helps. 3's

Also install and run cCleaner for the top freeware picks page. See how much that deletes, (by default, it will delete temp files).

Are you certain that you had restore points set? The final cleanup instructions for malware threads is to toggle system restore, which wipes out all previous restore points.

Some AV programs, AVG springs to mind - never cleans up after itself. You may have update definitions from several programs using up space.
I think Norton/Symantec also had a problem that it ate up space.

plodr: I don't think its my AVG
TimW: Yes I did have restore points set. I had 17 restore points. After all the restore points failed then I did the Malwere removal
Grampa: Mines is less then a gig
    necro61: Found nothing
sach2: Oh my SpaceSniffer found something. Its called RRbackups which I think is Rescue and Recovery Lenovo (It came with my computer) It is taking up 50+ GB. Also I think its a hidden folder but I have hidden folder thing on so I should be able to see it but I don't. Also I did some googleing about this and people say to uninstall it. My problem now is I can't uninstall it gives me an error and tells me to update I think it was Lenovo care program but I can't get it to start

You said you did the malware removal, but you didn't post in the malware forum.:confused
And in January you posted about a problem with something called mounted volume:confused
Maybe it would help to have the malware fighters take a look at your logs. You do seem to have some symptoms, no restore capability, can't remove some programs.:wave:wave

My question was more to the point of did you toggle system restore after you did the malware cleaning? Is this something you did on your own or on a different site? Which logs did you find clean? We ask for 5 logs.

I just did the steps in here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=139681... And I kinda skipped step 4 because I though it would be like my mounted volume thing and it was just a glitch. I guess I should go and post the logs once I start from step 1
As for the mounted volume thing my friend said it just may have been a glitch that made it look like there was a mounted volume because it was there for a few hours then it was not there anymore
Yes after malware cleaning I turned off system restore then turned it back on
Also my friend says my computer is corrupted that's why I can't do system restore and some other stuff.
