   I attempt to open system restore I get the following
   Pop up
   System Restore Application
   System Restore Application has encountered a problem and need to close.
   I TOLD MICROSOFT ABOUT THE PROBLEM, NO REPLY

   1. Does it work in Safe Mode?

   2. Have you checked if the service is running?
   http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/Archive_SP2/servicecfg.htm
   check your services against what BV suggests for XP SP2.
   
   Note: support for XP SP2 will end July 13, 2010. This means you need to update to SP3 because you will no longer be offered any security updates after July 13th.
