System restore wont start

I have and xppro machine with143 gigs memory free. The system restore wont start, it is diasabled because it thinks that there is insufficient memory available on one drive but there is only one.
Ive tried rebooting and safe mode, turning it off in the registry and thenturning it back on, running it from the command line and also starting it from the services console. Interstingly this gives me an error that says. Error 2, cant find file specified.
Any one have any other ideas. Im running sp2.

 

From the services console, on the first tab, it shows path to executable.

What does it say?

 

the path says c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs


Is it possible its not finding the path?

 

Unlikely.

Another possibility is this file is missing or corrupted:

srsvc.dll

The service relies on it.

 

I tried replaceing this file and no change. This whole thing started when I had a small drive run out of space and had to clone the drive to a much larger drive.

 

Is that small drive still connected?

System restore by default monitors all drives on a system.

 

No it is now the only hardrive

 

The only drive connected is the large drive.
