    Hello there,

Am having some trouble as my comp is suddenly taking ages to boot and shutdown.

Could this be due to many restore points created as i read somewhere ?

When i was running my antivirus i saw it scanning a folder c:\system restore but i cant find it using explorer.

How can i remove all the previous restore points and delete this folder.

    Thanks

    Sonia

restore folder is a system folder. in order to remove the contents of it, you must disable the system restore feature. You cannot 'get rid' of the folder however, just the contents.

AV's are notorious for not being able to scan and repair the system restore fies.

if you want to clean out old restore points yet save the last one, in my computer where you defrag etc if you run disk clean up when it s finished there is a tab at the top saying more options and you can perform that action there but if you want rid of all of them just do as kodo says and disable it and this wipes out all restore points and obviously if you use system restore make sure you re-enable

If the box is not checked does that mean System Restore is active? If so how does one access the restore points.

    Thanks

    Robo,

    Very much so. Thank you.

Do you know if Roxio's GoBack and System Restore can both be active or is there a conflict between the two?

    Thanks

    Thanks Robo,

    Will try your ideas.

However also most of my programs are taking soooo long to load now.

Tried running disk defrag but still the same.Could this be a hardware problem???

I use GoBack and yes they can run together without any problems. I've also noticed a major performance hit when running "Windoze System Restore" compared to GoBack while playing games. I just disable "System Restore" in favor of the simplicity of GoBack. Goback will create the restore points on it's own, no interaction is needed from me. When I'm installing any new proggies or making changes of any kind I just keep an eye on the clock, so that I know exactly when I screwed up. LOL That way its much easier to find the point I will be lookin' for. :D

GoBack is cool in the fact that it will ( depending on how much space you allocate ) keep your history for 3-4 days back. I've been using it for years now & I love it. I find it so much easier to use than "System Restore".

Yes BUT, I’m told that GoBack messes with the MBR and shouldn’t be used with Windows XP. Also the maximum amount of disk space I can allow is only 4 Gig. That’s not very much anymore.

I do know that if you want to do a Power Quest Drive Image to do it correctly you have to disable GoBack.

I personally like GoBack but in other forums I read all these other warnings that I just wrote about. Oh well!

I also used it for years on Win 98Se systems. I agree it was great and saved me more than I care to remember.

System Restore creates restore points when the computer is idle (in the form of checkpoints), or you are installing unsigned drivers, software, etc.

A game is going to use near 100% CPU usage. That doesn't really qualify as idle.

You've made a system restore point yourself, I am sure.

Its very fast, and when its done, its done. How can/does it hurt performance?

I could see it eating up hard drive space however.
