Sorry to hear of your problem. I can't help you with it though. I had the same problem a couple times with system restore, which resulted in my having to reinstall everything. When I brought it up on this forum some folks said that system restore can't cause that, but I (and you) know differently. I don't know why it happens, but it does, and as I said before in imho "don't trust system restore".
There's some REALLY smart people here, someone will probably know the answer. Good luck.

    1) system restore erases everything but what was on it from the factory. only use it if all else fails. there are restore programs out there but good ones cost$$$ and you need to know what you are looking for.

    2) if downloading something... save it (the original set up download) to a folder on your desk top. when you have to restore email yourself the master programs and then you can open them and use them again.

    3) uninstall individual programs and reinstall them from the makers site. (ie yahoo) they have the most current versions of the program.

    4) most important. http://www.majorgeeks.com/ look through here and you will find just about anything you need to straighten out your computer.

    5) if all else fails... go buy a new computer or new programs.

No, don't get too shook up. System restore does NOT "erases everything but what was on it from the factory" it is supposed to return it to a restore point of your choosing, and most of the time it works pretty well. Though I don't think you should use it to return a game, or other large files, better to just reinstall. And you don't need to buy a new computer or programs, no wonder yout freakin' with advice like that. You can fix this, I fixed mine twice, but you may have to do a complete reinstall. That sucks, but it's kind of nice in some ways, you'll be surprised how much junk is on it that you don't need. Or as mew2 said, just try uninstalling and reinstalling the programs you're having trouble with, that may do it, but in my case, I just kept finding more problems and decided to start all over again.
Hang in there, I think someone here can help you, it can be fixed.
BTW, I have used a program called goback that seems to work much better, you may want to look into it for future use.
Also did you try doing a online virus scan?

I would recommend reinstalling Windows. System Restore has given me nothing but trouble in the past. Right after the install, I recommend turning System Restore off to avoid later troubles, tumult, murkiness, and confusion

    Hello,

Not sure what O.S. you're using but "System Restore" can be a "life-saver" yet for many unknown reasons people don't have good luck with it. If you are using XP, you can go to "System Properties" (Hold down the Windows Key and tap the Pause/Break key) and change the settings in System Restore to meet your personal needs.

To have an opportunity to get back to where you were, you might try rebooting and tapping the "F8" key which will bring you to a menu. One of the options is the "last known good configuration". Take that option and see if it will help you out. At this point, it might be your ONLY option short of a "clean install".

    Good luck!

angel of existance, I, too, had nothing but ugly experiences with System Restore. You don't say what O.S. you're using, but on my WinME machine, I did the next best thing--deleted the _RESTORE folder altogether thru DOS. Especially when I found out that if the system becomes infected with a virus, that virus resides in System Restore even after you've removed it with an antivirus prog. Use System Restore and you're infected all over again. My system has worked flawlessly w/o System Restore for over 2 years now. If you are using WinME, do a google search on how to remove the Restore folder and follow the instructions to the letter.

As roddinron said, hang in there. Someone here has the answer. Just be patient.
