system32 Folder

I am running Windows XP Professional and my issue is that the system32 folder inside WINDOWS has somehow become hidden and I cannot uncheck it.

Anyone have any ideas of what to do.

P.S. I have already tried a repair of my Windows and that did not fix the problem.

 

By design the folder/directory system32 is marked hidden, to protect users from harming, or deleteing critical files for the operation of the system.

If you want to access this folder then you must bring up explorer:

Click the Windows key + E (which brings up explorer).
Click tools, then folder options (which brings up "Folder options" menu)
Click the view tab, select the radial button "Show hidden files and folder", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files. Click "YES" on the security popup.
Press OK.

You should now be able to access this folder.

 

On all my other XP Machines with a clean install both of them the system32 folder is NOT hidden that's why I am questioning it.

Especially since I am unable to make it visible again just doesn't seem right to me.

Click Start > Run type cmd

In the Window that opens type this:

attrib -a -h -r -s c:\windows\system32

Be sure to pay attention to the spaces. There's one before each switch (-a, etc.) and one before C:\Windows\System32.
