When I rescan using the one-button-checkup feature I keep getting the same results for windows registry scan and missing program files. I tried updating the software and running the program with system restore turned off and I still get the same issues. I also tried contacting Symantec, but that's not possible for technical issues  . I think I might just set it up so it can ignore it.

Also, it does this check thing when I boot up, and it slows my pc down. can I turn it off some how?

This smiley is for fun. :p

I've done a little research on the web concerning msvcr80.dll, and it just seems to be a bug in the Norton program that does not realize that the file is leftout in the windows updates for Net framework 2.0

Use the file search on your PC and locate msvcr80.dll. On my system it is located in C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_0de06acd

Copy this file to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and Norton will be happy next time you run the One Button Checkup.

It seems that the Norton software makes assumptions where DLLs should be, which does not match the MS interpretation.

That's some sort of cache file for AIM. Not a big deal.

Right-click it and ignore, or try emptying the cache etc.

    Hello everyone,

My name's Martyn Lovell, and I'm the development lead of the team that produces msvcr80.dll [The Visual C++ Libraries team]. There are a couple of things I'd like to clarify.

First, Norton WinDoctor is wrong. It incorrectly reports that msvcr80 is missing when in fact it is correctly installed in the WinSxS directly in the windows. folder. If you own WinDoctor, you should report this bug to Symantec so that they get it fixed.

Do NOT copy the this file to any of the folders WinDoctor recommends.

If you've already attempted to take corrective action for this issue (by copying msvcr80.dll or msvcr80d.dll to ...\system32 or to the .NET Framework directory), please delete them. These files do not need to be copied around, and doing so may cause problems in future.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have more questions, as I don't read this forum regularly.
