Been having a lot of problems lately with my computer and have decided to buy a laptop as a backup. A friend told me to put Nortons SystemWorks on it, he has been using it on his laptop for about 6 months and really likes it.
Any opinions? Is it worth the money and does it really do that much as far as preventing problems or conflicts? Thanks

    Thanks scouse,

I feel like I have learned enough now that maybe starting with a new system and the proper software I can at least prevent any major problems. I have read where some people really don't like Nortons products.....I guess it's like anything.

I don't like Norton or Macafee. My SIL loaded Norton onto my computer a while back and the thing just didn't work right after that. I made him come back and uninstall everything, but it didn't help. I finally had to run a full system recovery. Macafee is even worse - the software is not user friendly and their tech support is terrible. I would rather have a virus than have to deal with those two programs. I am thinking of trying one of the virus protection programs on this site. I hear they are good.

I use system works and have for about 2 years (currently using 2003) and I like it... Like scouse, my favorite feature is Ghost, and I trust the AV with it...

I too like Norton products and am currently using Systemworks 2003 (non-Pro edition) and Norton Internet Services. I particularly like GoBack bundled in with SystemWorks - preserved my sanity more times than I care to remember. There are one or two minor niggles but at least you get a reasonably good level of support.

I had heard comments about Nortons being very hard on resources and people that had uninstalled it and changed to something else still experienced problems.
Should I decide to try it and experience problems with XP you can restore your system to it's settings before the installation, will that work or like LCH have to run a full system recovery?

I am biased, but one of the major causes I see people calling in for support for Windows XP is after they screwed their system with Norton Systemworks or programs like that.

    I steer clear of them.

Well mileage varies, but I have seen Systemworks screw the system over. But then I hear from 30-40 customers a day. If it works for you more power to ya, but to say it can't mess up your system pretty easily is a pretty bold statement.

Getting a lot of pros and cons. The reason I asked is I have been using WinOptimizer the last year or so. Liked it at first and then started having problems, nothing major at first then my computer really started slowing down (128MB) then, that could have been some of the problem.
But, just knowing what these type of programs do they have to mess with your registry and OS someway. I just thought Nortons had a pretty good reputation. Steve

I've used Norton stuff for 3 years with no probs and a lot of good. Just my 2 cents :)
