Hello everyone, this is my first post ever on here and I'm more than just a bit challenged when it comes to computer tech stuff. I use mine to play Everquest, an online game at home. I also use it at work to do work on the web, emails, IM's, memo's etc. I Downloaded a program to give me my system specs but couldn't get it to work
Heres my problem. At home I have a dial up connection, at work I use a T1 Lan connection. I bring my pc from home to work and back everyday. At the moment (because I don't know how to set things so I can use my isp at home and at work) I do a system restore at home and one at work to change settings. There has to be a better way, I just don't have any idea what it is. Could anyone walk me thru the better way, or tell me what to change so I can use both the Lan and the Dial up? Right now I can dial into my isp and get a connection but none of the programs use it if my pc is still set how it was when it was at work on the T1 Lan. Not sure if that makes a differance. Please help me if you can.

    Thanks Very Much,
    Blaine

    first of all, Welcome :-D

otherwise, wow, yeah, a system restore is definitly a pain in the butt. for the T1 connection at work, i'm assuming you're hooked up to their network. my advice would be to disable the networking card while you're at home/keeping the modem enabled, and when you're at work, disable the modem and enable the networking card. as for the programs you use... most of the ones i've seen automatically adjust for whatever internet access you're using. i hope this helps a little, and i'm sure others here have advice for ya too, its a great board :)

That sounds like it would work, thanks very much. I use windows ME, could you tell me how to enable the modem and disable the networking card and vice versa so I can give it a try and see how it works? Thanks again

you can either go thru device manager and do it, or you might be able to do it somehow thru the network-connections thing if its in WinME :)

It is kind of like having your appendix removed in the morning and having it put back in at in the evening. If you never posted your question you would of needed professional help in the future. At this point dont stop asking questions.
