Tar files are compressed files created by a Unix based operating system or a derivative thereof. The latest versions of WinZip are supposed to be able to unarchive them. If you don't have a file compression utility other than the one built into XP, visit the Downloads page of Major Geeks and check the Miscellaneous section. There are several free archiving apps that handle .tar files.:)
