    Hi,

In Task Manager, the CPU has two digits associated with each process.

    What do these digits signify?

My processor is a Pentium D and has two cores. Does each digit correspond to each core, and what of the actual numbers?

    Thanks

Never have used Vista, but if there are 2 numbers for each process I would assume that each number represents the amount of the indicated core a given process is using, one for each of your 2 cores.

Cores can be utilized by a program at varying levels. Some programs may be written so as to use primarily the 2nd core or vice versa.

By the way, if you have 2 cores, they are technically referred to as core 0 and core 1 rather than core 1 and core 2. If you right click on a process in the "Processes" tab of Task Manager and open the affinity dialog for a process ("Set Affinity"), you can see how they are numbered.

It's telling you what percentage of the CPU's time is being taken by each process. If you want to find out what is hogging the CPU time you can order the display by CPU time by clicking the column heading once or twice. When idling it will show System Idle Process at the top, usually over 90. You need to show processes from all users to see that. The percentage is for the entire processor regardless of how many cores it may have.
