I got stuck at: It will the automatically start running three batch ( .bat files are batch programs ) programs in that folder.

When I open MGTools, I see all the files but none of te batch files are running. Should I click on the .bat files?

Did you shutdown protection software as requested and did you run MGtools.exe after downloading it? If yes, then see if the C:\MGlogs.zip files exists. If so, attach it per the instructions that explain how to make attachments

I managed to close Avast but not the firewall.

I clicked on Run but the only zip file shows a 2005 date. Somewhere along the line, I did something wrong.

I'm showing a Hijackthis icon dated today. Only 379KB.

Shall I have another go at downloading and closing the Firewall as well as Avast?

What do you mean you clicked on Run? There is no run to click on. Did you download and save the MGtools.exe file to your PC? If so, you just needed to run it by double clicking on it from Windows Explorer or if you downloaded and save MGtools.exe to your Desktop, you could just double click on the icon that you would see for it on your Desktop.

Did you simply try following the instructions for How to attach files to your messages and then use the Browse button and then browse to the C:\ ( this is the root level folder - that is the highest level folder - of the C drive ). I'm assuming that you have Windows installed on drive C. MGtools.exe needs to be run from the drive where Windows is installed or else it will not run properly. Thus if you have Windows installed on your D drive, you would have to save and run MGtools.exe from the D drive.

If you are seeing a HijackThis icon in the MGtools folder, then you must have already run MGtools.exe since it will automatically make the \MGtools folder and put all the files in the folder including HijackThis.exe

Not sure if I clicked on Run or Open. MGTools downloaded and saved to my C drive where Windows is.

I think I may have run Hijack this twice.

I have a file named MGLogs.zip in C drive. I haven't uploaded Attachments here before, so I hope this work.

Not what you were supposed to do. You were supposed to download it by selecting Save. We did not want you to run it from the website as sometimes this will not work due to where a browser is running from and where temporary files folder are located.

However, it appears to have run okay and what you did was download and save to the below location which is also not what we wanted

    C:\Documents and Settings\OWNER\My Documents\MGtools.exe

conime.exe is not in your running process list nor is it loading at startup. Earlier you said you saw it here

This is not true!! What you saw loading from there was the below:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [EKIJ5000StatusMonitor] C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\EKIJ5000MUI.exe

and that is just the status monitor for you Kodak software.

All of your startup processes are valid, but you should consider uninstalling Ask Toolbar. You probably did not even knowingly install this. You probably got it when you installed Foxit Software

The main reason for performance issues on your PC is what was mentioned earlier by satrow. Your logs show the below
    Code:
    Total Physical Memory[B][COLOR=red] 256.50 MB[/COLOR][/B]
    Available Physical Memory [B][COLOR=red]51.57 MB[/COLOR][/B]
    Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB
    Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB
    Page File Space 707.84 MB

    Drive C:
    Description Local Fixed Disk
    Compressed No
    File System NTFS
    Size 18.64 GB (20,011,589,632 bytes)
Free Space 6.78 GB (7,282,581,504 bytes)

You simply cannot run current versions of Windows XP and other software that you need to run with so little memory in your PC and with so little free memory available. Windows now has to constantly keep swapping applications out to disk to use virtual memory and since your free diskspace on drive C is really a little too low by today's standards, this also complicates the performance issues.

At a minimum, you need 1 GB of memory but 2 GB is highly recommended if your PC can support it. Also you should consider getting a larger hard disk for your Windows boot drive.

Many thanks. I'm such a dunce at anything technical that it's a wonder it worked at all. :-o

I'll remove the Kodak entry at Startup, and delete the Ask Toolbar because I certainly didn't download it.

I'll also investigate getting added RAM locally.

    I appreciate all your help.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Glad you got it, Lavender...

Once again, adding RAM proves to be the best bang-for-the-buck upgrade you can make to a machine...
