Task Manager Won't Open, Request Help

When I try to open task manager, I get the error message that Windows Task Manager has encountered problems and must close. This keeps me from installing some new software. I have run all the virus and spyware checks and procedures outline in the post by "chaslang" and have attached the hijack this log after having done so. Have saved other scan log files along the way if they would be of help.Can anyone please help? Thanks much in advance.

How does Task Manager stop you from installing new software as you stated?

Anyway, download THIS file to your desktop, double-click on it, and Yes if it asks you to accept.

This repairs Task Manager. If not, do you have a Windows CD? (not a recovery CD, but a proper Windows CD)

 

Hi and thanks for the welcome. Sorry about posting the hijack file too early. I doownloaded the registry entries and installed them... still no task manager.

The problem I have installing software is with one that gets hung up when trying to install the microsoft SQL server portion of this particular software. This is not necessary to run the program but the only way to get the installation to continue properly is to terminate setup at the point where it gets hung up with task manager. I started this journey with the support department of this software vendor.

My computer is a dell so I only have the reinstallation cd for windows. I do have an upgrade cd that I used to upgrade a different computer.
