Taskbar annoyance

Precisely every 15 minutes, I get a blank button that appears on my task bar for about 2 seconds, then goes away. Nothing else happens, and it doesn't appear to be causing any problems as such, but it is just very annoying when, for example, I'm trying to watch something in WMP in full-screen mode, and every quarter of an hour the taskbar appears with this extra blank button in.

I've been through virtually every program that exists on my computer, and can find nothing that is set to do something regularly every 15 minutes. I've had Task Manager open and waited for the button to appear, and nothing new appears in Task Manager at the same time.

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be and how to get rid of it, it's starting to drive me mad!

 

Tipicly an e-mail program, like Outlook or some other normally set for this sort of intervallum. They produce a button while checking the servers. If the program corrupted, maybe the button stays blank.

Or . . . You should scan for spyware, or a troyan virus....

Just guessing.

 

Cheers for the suggestion. I don't ever use Outlook, but I did open it just to check anyway, and the e-mail check is set to every 20 minutes, so it can't be that. I've done virus and spyware checks, and it still happens....

I just got an advise on something else.

Try to download "Process Explorer' (free) .

That gives you clear and precise info what is going on in the system. It is like TaskManeger, just more detailed.

Run it, and when your button is up just check between the running processes.
I only had it today, and helped on my problem...
