On my laptop, my taskbar icons, for power source, and for volume, have dissappeared.

In taskbar/properties/customize, both don't appear in the 'current items', but do appear in the past items, as a folder. They are set to always show, but appearing as a folder I think is the issue.

In each systems' properties, the 'always display icon in taskbar' is checked.

If I uncheck each, apply, OK, close, then re-open, and re-check each, apply, OK, then each re-appears.

    At re-boot, they're gone.

Click on the link below, scroll down to #164 Restore Taskbar to Default Functionality and run the VBS file.

NOTE: To use the VBS Files: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double
click the vbs file. You will be prompted when the script is done.

    Thanks for the lead.

Unfortunately, the laptop isn't connected to the internet, and I haven't figured out how to share the dial-up connection through the LAN.

Any idea what caused the function change that just appeared?

    Excellent work!

    I have 'a fix'.

The change apparently occured as I fumbled through a LAN connectivity problem, and changed a 'hide/display icons for networked UPnP devices'.

I've changed a setting described on the page you linked, and icons are up on re-boot. Now, we'll undo that setting, go back and re-set the UPnP hide/display setting, and see if we can get original config. If not, we still can get the 'new' fix.

We got the original config. It was the UPnPdevice setting for icon display - hide/show.

    Thanks.
