Taskbar will not move and freezes

My taskbar is being so ugly I accidently moved it to the right side of the screen. Now i can't get it back to the bottom and when i try it freezes and then you can't use it or move it I have searched for similar problem but haven't found the ansewer yet. I have win98. I am a newbie to this forum so please be kind thank you twinkles4unme

Welcome to Major Geeks.

The mouse pointer will move, but it will look like nothing is happening. Is that what you mean by freezing? That’s normal — just keep holding down the mouse button and moving the pointer down until the taskbar suddenly snaps into the correct position.

By freezing I mean that you are unable to use it. I cannot access the start button or anyother task that is on the taskbar. It stops being useful. thanks, twinkles

You try and move your taskbar back to the bottom of the screen and it will not move, then you can't even use the taskbar. Anything you click on does not work. Are you ever able to use the taskbar at any point?

Just trying to get a little more info, hopefully that will help everyone.

This started about 5 days ago. I was doing my normal thing on the computer and accidently clicked and moved the taskbar.


You try and move your taskbar back to the bottom of the screen and it will not move, then you can't even use the taskbar. Anything you click on does not work. Are you ever able to use the taskbar at any point?

I can only use the taskbar afrter I reboot. If I try to move the taskbar that is when it stalls out. If I don't try to move it it works fine. When I reboot again it starts all over.

I tried to move the taskbar today and I have not been able to use it. It is blanck. No icons,start button or time. When I move the mouse over the taskbar it turns in to a double arrow. Thank you very much for your time

 

First make sure you unlock it.

right click on an open space in the grey bar and then make sure "lock the taskbar" is unchecked. Then give it a try. If it freezes press ctrl+alt+del and see what is frozen. It should say something and then it will say "Not responding" to the right of it. Then report back and tell us what is freezing up.

 

Ok, I have tried to unlock the taskbar but nothing like that appears when i try. This is what does appear when I right click on the taskbar a window comes up and gives the choice of toolbar
cascade,horizontally,vertically windows
minimize all windows
undo tile
properties

I go to properties and there I see always on top (checked)
auto hide (unchecked)
show small icons in start menu (unchecked)
show clock (checked)


Ok. I tried to move taskbar and couldn't. Checked the ctrl+alt+del to find out what wasn't responding and nothing came up "Not responding". Yes, this win98.

 

I have scanned for trojans and it came up none

 

Darn, I guess this is hopeless I am so saddddddd

 

You mentioned getting the double arrow, when this happens try to expand the taskbar a little and then try to move it.

Thanks, but another forum helped me. It wasn't anything as easy just moving the arrow. Sorry, but i wasn't very impressed with this one. Thanks for all that did take the time.
