Does your tax office not offer help in filling in personal tax? in the UK if you ask they will help. I know personal tax is a PITA to do as you don't want to miss anything either to claim back tax on or declare... glad these days I don't need to do this as I work in a Gov dpt so its done for us.

Hey magunta, I'm from Victoria and I use an accountant although these days I could use someone like H & R Block or ITP (Income Tax Professionals) as I have wound back my business and don't really need an accountant.
My accountant does a separate return for myself, my wife, my son and my daughter as we are all working. It costs about $260 total for all tax returns to be prepared and electronically submitted and any refunds are generally available within 7 days. It works out at $65 per return and the money I pay is worth it because he doesn't miss anything we could claim and he saves us much more money than it costs.

I saw this for $58 and wondered if ezytaxonline would be a help. I have never used them but they don't seem to have any bad reviews when I did a bit of a Google search (although I wasn't very thorough).

It is up to you but it might be at least worth an enquiry ;) :cool

@DavidGP our tax office is good at giving you the forms to fill in but they don't give any advice as they may be held responsible if the advice is misunderstood or used incorrectly and this could deprive them of a prosecution or get court costs awarded against the ATO (Australian Tax Office). The ATO always suggest you see a tax agent or accountant if you are unsure about your obligations rolleyes
I know from first hand experience in 1992 that the ATO can be very nasty people indeed :eek:mad

@Joffa, cheers for the info and for all the negative press about the UK Gov at least our HMRC will help, kinda guess as it will save them ££££ in prosecuting you for failed tax. Positive for UK is unless you are self employed the tax is worked out by your employer, so we are mollycoddled.
