It isn't a horrible idea... however I'll make it better.

We don't tax technology... we tax M$.

Anti-Trust Lawyer: Ok Mr. Gates, if you want a monopoly you can have it... however you have to pay a 5% monopoly tax on every transaction.

Please note that this is the alpha version of the proposal. It would suck if that passed around here, but you have to admit at least it's a worthy goal. However, I'm sure most of the money would end up getting siphoned to some congo warlord's bank account.

@Halo: I read about that the other day. Sounds like a bunch of BS to me. I hate to say it, but when governments start to do stuff like this, it red flags me for a sign of revolution.

 

actually, they and other companies were (and still are, really) being taxed quite a bit. i forgot the figures, but a huge huge chunk (and i mean huge) of our nations taxes come from gates, ballmer, and others like them. very little money comes from the other millions of "lowly" americans. the sad thing is that bush "heavily" (used tentatively to minimize flamage capabilities) cut taxes on those gates and ballmers. oh well.

 

@kodo I understand you can't tax one company over all the others, I was making a bad joke, it is really all I do (just ask anyone I work with). I just spliced together a punchline from family guy and the simpsons. Granted, it was completely unnesessary, but so is most of what I do.

@halo until the government angers drunken football (soccer for people in the only part of the world that matters :tongue-in-cheek: ) fans. I've seen some angry drunken football fans... at least the ones I saw were just plain vicious.

The reason the tax cut for them was so high was because it was based on a percentage (if memory serves) and since they pay the highest percentage in taxes they got the most out of the tax cut.

The United Nations is sponsoring this? Aren't they the ones that managed the "oil for food" program in Iraq? http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/smilies/eek.gif Not that I'm a strong supporter of socialism (quite to the contrary), but if you're going to start a fund, at least find a responsible (less-corupt) agency to collect/dole the money out! That's rich.

 

It is like giving a cell phone to a street bum so he can call another street bum on a better part of town??? Tell them to tax their own rich people!

IMO, this picture is not as bad as it is, it takes me 1/4 of my paycheck to fill up my truck!
