    Hello,

Below are a set of postings to the malware forum whereby I thought my Taxcut problems were caused by a virus/malware. I did have a virus and I effectively cleaned it up with help of those that provide advice under the Malware forum.

I still am unable to boot up Taxcut deluxe 2005 version in normal mode and was told to come to this forum to see if anyone would have any ideas on how to correct the invalid page fault error I receive when I try to boot the program up. I am running WIN 98 and all of my other programs run fine in normal mode including Taxcut 2004 and 2003. I am able to boot up the program briefly in safe mode but the program will not run with the minimal graphics under safe mode.

Please see the forum discussion below for a history of what has occurred. This info was previously posted in the Malware forum.

Thanks In advance for any advice.

    Hello,

I have been trying to troubleshoot the following error message when attempting to start Taxcut Deluxe (2005 edition) from the desktop: "taxcut created an invalid page fault at unknown module".

I have a windows 98 machine and have contacted Taxcut customer support and they tell me that it is probably another software program conflicting with this program. The Taxcut program did work when I initially installed it but then I noticed that the program "UnSpyPC" loaded on my computer and I am now unable to start this program. I have attempted to perform much of the troubleshooting by deleting this program both in the registry and startup menus using msconfig as well as running spybot / adware and antivirus programs. Still no luck. I have uninstalled and re-installed the program but yet still get the same error message.

The 2005 taxcut program does work in "safe mode" but will not work in any other limited startup configuration where I can limit what gets loaded at startup. All of my other desktop programs work OK in normal mode even previously installed Taxcut 2004 and Taxcut 2003 programs. The only thing I can think of is that UnSpyPC is still operating in the background causing this conflict when running in the normal mode. I have attached the Hijack this log to this message. Thanks for any support/advice.

    Hello,

I have performed the required steps for assistance. I have WIN 98 and have downloaded all of the programs you stated except for CounterSpy which will not install on my WIN98 1st edition. Attached are the Bitdefender/Panda and Hijack this file (After I ran everything). I still cannot run Taxcut 2005 but everything else seems to operate OK. I am not sure if my Taxcut problem is the result of a virus or not but it does seem strange that the Taxcut program will work in Safe mode but not in any other configuration (Invalid page fault at unknown module occurs). As stated before, the other 2 Taxcut programs (2004 and 2003) do operate correctly in normal mode. Also as stated before the 2005 Taxcut program did work in normal mode prior to my seeing UnSpyPC automatically load on my machine.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

    Hello,

Thanks for the assistance. I loaded and ran the fixwareout.exe file and then Hijackthis. I deleted the files from Internet Explorer and ran CC Cleaner.

I re-booted and my Taxcut program still says "taxcut caused an initial page fault within unknown module". Are there any other ideas on how to get my 2005 taxcut program to run again on this computer?

(maybe a virus is not the cause and that maybe a windows file (dll is corrupt). I would think that a clean install of the program would fix this but I have tried and it still will not work.

Any other ideas are appreciated. Thanks for assisting me in cleaning up my machine from viruses.
