I've been having trouble accessing the internet. Under Local Area Connection, on the General tab it kept saying Status : Trying to obtain an address (or something like that) On the service tab, when I click on repair, it goes through and stops suddenly saying that it cannot clear the DNS cache. Right now I am manually configured so that I could come here to ask for help. The tech at Qwest says that I probably have a damaged driver. BUT neither of us could even locate the driver. His other thought is that I have some sort of zombie but I don't put much credibility in that therory.

I'm on a Dell computer running Windows XP Service Pack 2

Do you have any error messages, Bomba?; or better, can you bring one up?

It says that it cannot clear the DNS cache. I am not really getting any real error messages. The guy at Qwest says that if I cannot clear the cache I have problems and it is why I had to "hard code" the ip addresses into my network configuration.

Ok I just did that but I don't know why. My problem is that I cannot flush the DNS cache

Go to Control Panel > Aministrative tools > Services then find and highlight DHCP Client in the list and click Stop the service.

Then click Restart the service .

I did what you said but it still says that it cannot clear the cache. Maybe it is time to reformat.

Sorry about that, my mistake. Thanks for stepping in, Matacumbie.

Click on Start > Run and type command. At the prompt type ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter.

Try this method and see if it changes anything, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919746

Also, when you type the command ipconfig /flushdns be sure to include the space after ipconfig.

Yay! Victory! No reformatting needed. It worked! Thank you so much!
